OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Review (UK Wild Camping Test) – Worth It in 2026?

Updated April 2026 after extended real-world use
Quick Verdict
The OEX Phoxx 1 V2 is one of the best budget solo tents for UK wild camping. It’s low profile, reliable in bad weather and easy to carry – but you’ll need to accept limited space and no ability to sit upright.
Why I Chose the OEX Phoxx 1 V2

After years of using a bivvy, I wanted something slightly more comfortable without losing the simplicity and stealth I was used to.
I wasn’t looking for:
- a large tent
- something to sit in for hours
- or anything expensive
What I needed was simple:
- low profile
- quick setup
- reliable in UK conditions
The OEX Phoxx 1 V2 fit that perfectly.
OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Specs
- Weight: 1.58kg
- Hydrostatic head: 5000mm
- Capacity: 1 person
- Structure: Low-profile tunnel tent
- Price paid: £65 (currently on sale at £49)
At this price point, it’s hard to find something that performs as consistently.
OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Dimensions
- Length: 253 cm
- Width: 84 cm
- Height: 75 cm
For taller campers, the length is one of its biggest advantages. I’m over 6ft and have no issues fitting inside.
Setup in the Field

The setup is straightforward but not completely foolproof.
In good conditions, it’s quick. In wind or fading light, you need to pay attention the first few times. After a few uses, it becomes second nature.
Where it works best:
- woodland
- uneven ground
- tight or awkward pitches
Its small footprint makes a real difference when choosing a spot.
Real UK Wild Camping Performance

Wind
The low profile helps a lot here.
I’ve used it in exposed areas where wind is noticeable. You’ll hear it, but if it’s pitched properly, it holds up well for what it is.
Rain
No issues.
With a 5000mm hydrostatic head, it handles typical UK rain without problems. I’ve used it in wet conditions and stayed dry throughout.
Condensation
This is the main drawback.
Like most small tents, condensation does build up – especially in colder or damp weather. It’s manageable, but it’s part of using a compact tent.
Stealth and Low Profile

This is where the Phoxx 1 V2 stands out.
- Dark green colour
- Very low height (75cm)
- Doesn’t stand out in the landscape
Compared to larger or brighter tents, it’s much easier to stay unnoticed. For wild camping in the UK, that matters.
Space and Comfort

This is not a comfort tent.
You:
- can’t sit upright
- have limited room for gear
- will feel it if you’re used to bigger setups
That said, coming from a bivvy, it feels like an upgrade:
- more protection
- slightly more space
- still simple
What I Like
- Very low profile (good for stealth camping)
- Reliable in wind and rain
- Lightweight and easy to carry
- Good length for taller users
- Excellent value for money
What I Don’t Like
- No sitting up inside
- Limited internal space
- Condensation in certain conditions
- Vestibule space is usable but not generous
Is the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Worth It?
Yes- if you understand what it is.
This tent is not about comfort or luxury. It’s about:
- simplicity
- staying low profile
- having something reliable for a night or two
If that’s what you’re after, it does the job very well- especially for the price.
Who It’s For

This tent works well if you:
- camp solo
- prefer quiet, low-profile spots
- keep your setup simple
- only stay out for short trips
It’s probably not for you if:
- you want space or comfort
- you need to sit up inside
- you spend long periods inside your tent
Final Thoughts
The OEX Phoxx 1 V2 isn’t perfect- but no tent is.
For me, it ticks the important boxes:
- affordable
- low profile
- reliable
It’s a no-nonsense shelter that makes wild camping simple and accessible.
And for that, it works.
