OEX Phoxx 1 V2 in Wind (Real Coastal Test – UK)

I’ve used the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 on exposed UK ground, including coastal areas – this is how it actually handles wind in real conditions.
Quick Answer
It does extremely well at handling windy conditions. Its low profile and steep side are great at deflecting the wind.

Real Use
I’ve used it in exposed areas where wind is noticeable and during storms. You’ll hear the flysheet get a pounding, but the important thing is that it holds up very well to windy conditions.
In a recent camp at the end of February 2026, I was 200 metres up on quite an exposed area of the Purbeck Hills in Dorset, and the gusts that night were measured at roughly 44 mph (70 km/h).
The wind and rain was relentless from the late night until the morning. The tent took a pounding that night, with no issues. I was warm and dry inside.
What Makes the Difference
Height
At 75cm, it sits vey low to the ground.
Shape
The low profile and steep sided design helps deflect wind rather than fight it.
Setup
Of course, setting up the tent properly matters. If it’s not pitched correctly, you’ll feel and hear it. It’s very stable, as the inner section containing the frame is secured to the ground, and the flysheet that goes over the top is pegged down separately.

Where It Works Best
It will suit most environments and seasons in the UK. I’ve used it throughout the year in sheltered woodlands, on exposed hilltops and areas with partial cover.
It’s not made for extreme conditions, but for typical UK conditions, it’s perfect.
What to Expect
It’s a fantastic tent that handles windy conditions well. There’s the usual noise as it gets buffeted around, and it will move and shake in high gusts. But overall, it’s a fantastic piece of kit.
Final Thought
It is not built for extreme winter storms, including hurricane-force winds and whiteout conditions on high mountains.
But for normal UK wild camping, in normal UK weather conditions, it does the job.
