Can You Sit Up in the OEX Phoxx 1 V2? (Honest Answer)

One thing people often ask about the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 is whether you can actually sit up inside it comfortably.
The honest answer is no… but you can prop yourself up on your elbows.
The highest point of the inner tent is around the head section and stands at roughly 70 cm, so, unless you are the height of a toddler – you can’t sit upright. I’m able to prop myself up enough to get changed, sort gear out, use my phone, make notes or simply stay out of the weather for a while.

In both the head and foot ends, the height drops away quickly, so it definitely feels more like a low-profile shelter than a spacious backpacking tent.
Personally, I think expectations are important with tents like this. The Phoxx 1 V2 is designed to be compact, relatively lightweight and low profile. It’s not designed for sitting around all day out of the rain playing cards.
For short overnight trips and quiet wild camps, I personally think the low profile is one of its strengths, and one of the main reasons I bought the tent in the first place. When set up, it’s very discreet, it handles wind very well and doesn’t stand out in the landscape.
That said, during bad weather or longer periods spent inside the tent, you do notice the limited internal space. If you’re someone who likes sitting inside a tent for hours reading, cooking and spreading gear everywhere, then you may find it cramped.

I tend to use mine more as a simple overnight shelter rather than somewhere to spend long periods inside. I have done a few multi-night camps in it which have been fine, but it’s not somewhere to fully live inside.
The low ceiling also means you’ll regularly brush against the inner walls while moving around, especially while changing clothes or getting into your sleeping bag. In colder conditions with condensation, this can sometimes become slightly annoying.

Even with a few drawbacks, I think the trade-off is fair considering the price, size and overall performance of the tent.
For me, the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 works best when used with realistic expectations. It’s a compact one-person tent designed for practical overnight use rather than long comfortable stays.
For the price, I still think it offers unbelievably good value.
