OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Review (UK Wild Camping Test) – Worth It in 2026?

Updated April 2026 after extended real-world use

Quick Verdict

I’ve used this tent across multiple UK wild camps in different conditions, and this is what it’s actually like. The OEX Phoxx 1 V2 is one of the best budget solo tents for UK wild camping. It’s low profile, very reliable in bad weather – but you’ll just need to accept limited space and no ability to sit upright.

Why I Chose the OEX Phoxx 1 V2

After years of using a bivvy, I wanted something slightly more comfortable without losing the simplicity and stealth I was used to.

I was heading out for a few days on the South Downs’ Way, and I was looking for a tent that was slightly larger than a bivvi, something a little more comfortable to spend time in and something inexpensive.

What I needed was pretty simple. I needed something that was along the same lines as a bivvi. Something low-profile, stealthy, easy to setup and reliable in UK conditions.

After a bit of research, I found that the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 suits my needs perfectly.

OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Specs

  • Weight: 1.58kg
  • Hydrostatic head: 5000mm
  • Capacity: 1 person
  • Structure: Low-profile tent
  • Price paid: £65 (currently on sale at £48)

At this price, it’s hard to argue against the Phoxx tent and grumble at the price.

OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Dimensions (Inner Tent)

  • Length: 253 cm
  • Width: 84 cm
  • Height: 70 cm

Of course the outer dimensions are slightly larger, but the inner space is the most important as that is where you are going to sleep.

For taller campers like me, the length of the inner section is plentiful. I’m over 6ft and have no issues fitting inside.

If you want a little more detail about the inner section measurements, and how I felt when using the tent, see my OEX Phoxx 1 V2 dimensions guide.

Setup in the Wild

The setup is straightforward and almost foolproof. After a few uses, setting up becomes second nature. One grumble I hear a lot about the Phoxx 1v2, is that the inner section is pitched first, meaning that if it is raining, this section will get wet before you have the chance to cover it with the outer flysheet.

Personally, I’ve had no real issues with this. It goes up quickly enough, and it works well in all conditions and environments- from woodland with tight spaces to exposed windy and uneven hilltops. The small footprint really makes a difference when choosing a spot.

Wind

The low profile helps a lot in windy conditions.. I’ve used it in exposed areas where wind has been strong. The above photo was taken 200 metres up on the Purbeck Hills in Dorset. It was February 2026, and the gusts that night were measured at roughly 44 mph (70 km/h).

I took some shelter along side the gorse, but the tent was hammered by wind and rain and held up well.

Rain

No issues and no leaks.

With a 5000mm hydrostatic head, it is 100% waterproof. It handles typical UK downpours without any problems. I’ve used it in storms and downpours, and it is my go-to shelter for bad weather.

Condensation

This is one a few negatives.

Condensation does build up – and it is especially noticeable in cold and damp weather. It’s not a big issue, and I have experienced this with all of the shelters I have used.

Condensation builds up on the inside of the outer flysheet, but it has never dripped down onto the inner section.

Stealth and Low Profile

This is where the Phoxx 1 V2 really does well, and this is one of the main reasons I was attracted to it in the first place. It’s green, it has a very low-profile at only 75cm and it doesn’t stick out – everything I was looking for.

As it is small, low and not a bright colour, it’s much easier to stay hidden. That is important to me, and exactly what I was looking for in a shelter.

Space and Comfort

This is not a comfortable tent to spend time in. Unless, you’re like me – someone who is comfortable with tight spaces and bivvis. You can’t sit up in it, you need master the art of getting in and out through the low side entrance and there’s limited space to store gear.

You will not like it if you are used to larger tents. I’ve come from the world of the bivi, so for me- this feels like an upgrade, with a little more space and protection, but still keeping it simple.

What I Like About It

It’s a very low profile which is good for stealth camping. It’s been very reliable in the UK wind and rain, it’s quite lightweight and it’s long enough for taller users like myself. It is also excellent value for money.

What I Don’t Like About It

Unfortunately, you can’t sit up in it. Like a bivvi, it has limited space, it gets condensation in certain conditions and the vestibules’ space is usable, but not great for cooking.

Is the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Worth It?

Definitely – if you are able to accept it for what it is.

This tent is not about the luxury of comfort and space. It’s about a simple shelter, that does an amazing job and is excellent value for money. It’s does a great job of staying out of sight, and its totally reliable as a shelter for a night or two out camping

If that’s what you’re looking for- you can’t do better for the price than the Phoxx 1V2 tent.

Who It’s For

This tent will work well for you if you are a solo camper, looking for a low-profile shelter for short trips at an affordable price.

It’s not for you if you want plenty of space and comfort, and you want to sit up, do some cooking in the vestibules and spend long periods of time inside a tent.

Final Thoughts

The OEX Phoxx 1 V2 isn’t perfect- but no tent is and will be. For me it is perfect and suits all my requirements. It’s affordable, easy to set up, lightweight and reliable.

It’s a no-nonsense, no-fuss shelter that makes wild camping simple and fun.

And for that, it works.
