OEX Phoxx 1 V2 Condensation (UK Experience)

frost on oex phoxx 1 v2 outer layer showing cold conditions that lead to condensation inside

I’ve used the OEX Phoxx 1 V2 across multiple UK wild camps in different conditions – this is what condensation is actually like in real use.

Quick Answer

Yes – you will get condensation.
In my experience – that’s normal for every shelter I’ve used in wet and damp conditions.

When It Happens Most

It happens in the colder months and damp conditions with little wind, which is typical where I live.

In a winter camp in the New Forest, the tent frosted over in the middle of the night, and by morning, it had melted when the warmer rain arrived. This resulted in condensation building up on the inside of the flysheet.

How Bad Is It?

It’s manageable and not too bad. All there will be is moisture on the inside of the outer layer, but I’ve not had it drip or cause real problems.

Why It Happens

It could be the airflow, but it is not uncommon to have issues like this in wet and damp conditions. There’s moisture in the air, and the moisture builds up in the tent overnight as I create heat and exhale.

It’s not a flaw – it just happens. It happens regularly in my bivvis, and I know it also happens to people with more expensive tents.

What Helps

Keeping the side open and tied back does help. Pitching the tent side on to the wind to allow it to flow inside helps too. The best thing to do is accept it and manage it. It doesn’t happen in the warmer dryer months.

Final Thought

If you’re expecting zero condensation, this isn’t the tent.

If you understand it comes with the territory, it’s not an issue.
