A Return to a Magical Woodland in Wiltshire | Nortent Skjul Bivvi Camp
Mid-September 2026
It was my second time in this amazing woodland, and I had to return after such a wonderful experience here the first time around.
Here is the YouTube link to the kit video showing everything I took: 7KG BIVVI KIT | Everything I Carried
The forest is a mixture of commercial plantation and native woodland, with other areas that are more wild and natural. The place is also full of muntjac deer, and I only saw a couple of people during the whole time I was there.
I headed deep into a dense section of woodland to find a spot among the uneven ground. It took longer than I expected to find somewhere suitable, with night closing in and the drizzle starting.
I was fortunate enough to find a flat, grassy gully below a clearing in the tree canopy. It rained and drizzled for most of the night, and I made the mistake of not zipping up the side of the bivvi properly. In the morning, I discovered water along part of the inside floor beside the zip. This also led to a very humid interior with plenty of condensation.
I had a pretty good sleep, and there was also a good internet connection. After setting up, I did see a vehicle with its headlights pass through the patch of forest I was in. It wasn’t too far from me, and I hadn’t realised I was that close to a track. I was well hidden, though, and it was nothing to worry about.
