Matley Bog Enclosure near Beaulieu Road, New Forest
Early December 2024
What I like about this area is the quietness. It’s not remote, nor a wilderness, but it does feel empty.
There are one or two cars in some of the forest car parks.
There’s a train station and a group of terraced houses and an inn , but I rarely see people.
The area offers plenty of good spots, from flat grassy areas to heath and woodland.
I settled for a small clearing, just inside a small woodland and away from some of the large trees and widow makers.

Getting there:
I took the train to Beaulieu Road station and walked roughly 1.6 miles / 2.5km to where I camped.
There are plenty of car parks all around the forest. The closest is probably the Matley Bog Enclosure car park which is on the other side of the small woodland and about 0.4 miles / 600m from where I camped.
There are also two car parks close to the Beaulieu Road train station. I don’t think these car parks have any overnight parking restrictions.
Heads up:
No issues all night and I didn’t see anyone in this area as I was walking around before setting up camp and when I left in the morning.
The phone signal and internet connection were good. However, I did lose signal in a few spots in the area, particularly when I was in a dip or behind a hill.
