Hillfort, Dorset | Nortent Skjul Bivvi Camp
End of July 2026
Another wonderful evening spent on top of another hillfort in Dorset.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy not only an amazing sunset and sunrise, but also an almost full moon. It was just one night before July’s Buck Moon.
It’s been a hot and dry summer, and the grass on top was yellow, much like much of the country. There were patches of brambles, along with a couple of trees.
I eventually found a spot alongside one of the islands of brambles, which gave me a little cover from the open hilltop.
It was a busy and surprisingly loud evening as light planes, followed by helicopters, continued overhead until midnight. I think they were military helicopters on possible night-time training flights. Some remained in the distance, while others flew almost overhead.
Despite that, I was undisturbed throughout the night and there was a good phone signal.
