Dorset Hilltop: Nortent Skjul Bivvi Camp
Late June 2025
A peaceful, albeit a windy night on a Dorset hilltop
This huge Iron Age hillfort in Dorset is one of the most impressive I’ve camped on, with stunning views in all directions. The sunset didn’t disappoint.
I bivvied right on a path, avoiding the long grass because it was June and nesting season. No trees around the top of sides, so only suitable for a tent or bivi.
There are some trees around the base of the hill, but most are close to nearby houses. Behind the hill, there appears to be a more forested area, which I didn’t explore. I only ventured that way briefly to bag the trig point.
Heads up:
Apart from the hill being an area for ground nesting birds in the summer. I didn’t see anyone else on the hilltop all evening. The only person I spotted was a runner passing nearby.
DM me if you’d like the exact coordinates of the spot I used.
