Hethfelton Woods, Wool, Dorset
Late June 2024
This place is a hidden gem.
I saw these woods on Google maps and there’s definitely not much information about the place.
It was lovely and peaceful. I didn’t see anyone the whole time and there were no cars in the small car park as I entered in the late evening and left early in the morning.
Plenty of deer around and they were vocal in the late evening and early morning. I’m sure they were letting others know of my presence.
I did some litter picking along the A352 as I made my way back to Wool station.

Getting there:
I included an image of the small car park in this post. I found an article online which mentions a small car park which can fit about five cars and it was correct.
I entered via the car park and it was about 1 mile / 1.5 km from Wool train station. It wasn’t the nicest walk along the A352. Beforehand, I couldn’t find any information about whether the A352 had a pavement until I got there.
There were some freshly cut grass verges to walk on but at other times it was dodgy and I had to either head into the wooded areas adjacent to the road or walk in the road itself. There were some turn offs before I reaching the car park entrance but there were signs stating that these are private roads with CCTV.
I did think about turning back but it was late and the road wasn’t that busy. There’s a country house called Hethfelton House and a retreat next to the woods I thought that I may be able to access the woods by going through them but I decided against it.
Heads up:
I think there was a solar farm next to the woodland. I saw CCTV cameras around the perimeter so I stayed well clear.
The deer were warning others of my presence. Other than that, it was very quiet.
It might be best to reach the woods by car. I saw a bus stop close to Wool for the X50, X54 and 30 but I don’t know if they go along the A352.
