New Forest Denny Lodge
Late June 2024
For this camp, I had planned to follow the Lymington River until I found a suitable spot along the bank to hang the hammock.
That all changed when I encountered a fence and private land. The river disappeared and I couldn’t find a way around the fence in the time I had left, so I started to look for alternatives.
I ended up near a spot where I had camped before. It’s quiet – apart from a few deer and there were plenty of suitable trees for the hammock.
Coordinates:
50°49’43.8″N 1°32’41.2″W (not precise)
Getting there:
The spot I camped in was 2.1 miles / 3.3 km from Brockenhurst train station.
Heads up:
I joined the river at the junction of Mill Lane and the B3055. There are lots of well used paths alongside the river as I followed it south. I did see a few people walking around but as I continued, the forest became really quiet.
There is no internet reception at the camping spot. I had exactly the same issue when I camped on the other side of the train tracks. I didn’t notice this until after I had set up camp.
The only problem this created was when I tried to save the location of the camp on my phone. It wasn’t saving and when I enlarged the location on the map, the blue dot was moving around a lot. So I cannot guarantee that the coordinates are that precise.
