Holt Heath West Moors, Dorset
Mid – January 2025
The reserve is a low-lying heathland, split into two sections by a road. Some areas are particularly wet, with a raised boardwalk allowing passage over the boggiest parts. The sections I explored were muddy and had few trees.

Matley Bog Enclosure near Beaulieu Road, New Forest

What I like about this area is the quietness. It’s not remote, nor a wilderness, but it does feel empty.
