Frogham, Fordingbridge. New Forest Hampshire – OEX Phoxx 1V2 Tent Camp

My plan was to bag three or four trig points, then find a spot to camp using the Phoxx 1V2 tent.
I was north of the A31 this time, which is a new area for me, as all my previous wanders and camps have been south of it.

It was mid-week, quiet and the weather was good. I had a route planned on Google Maps, but after reaching the first trig, TP4094 – Ibsley Common, I realised I wasn’t going to make the next three, head back in the direction where I parked and make camp in the time I had.
I headed back the way I came, aiming to bag the last trig of TP0741 – Blissford, before setting up camp. It was closer to where I’d parked, meaning a shorter walk out in the morning and avoiding rush hour.

There are plenty of good spots in this area, such as woodland, open heath, flat grass and some boggy ground. The issue was that many of these areas were too busy or too close to built-up areas. The internet signal was also poor in most places.
I reached TP0741 – Blissford, which is situated on top of a long, narrow ridge. There were good spots either side, but again, not great internet..
I eventually settled on a small grass patch among tall gorse bushes. I had a good night’s sleep, woke to a hard frost, made a coffee, and headed home.
Getting there:
There are several small villages between the A338 and the forest. I chose Frogham as it was quiet, had easy access to the forest and sat between the trig points.
I parked along Abbots Well Road which is very quiet, with free on-street parking and a short walk into open forest.
There are multiple forest car parks nearby. I’m not sure on restrictions. Personally, I wouldn’t leave my car in them overnight.
Distance from camp to car: 2.2 miles (3.5 km)
Heads up:
I went mid-week, but I’m pretty sure this area gets busy on weekends and in good weather.
It’s very accessible, with wide paths, open heath, woodland and a clear running brook. Good for walking, but that also means more foot traffic. Internet and phone signals are good when close to the villages, but not great in the low areas, behind hills or in the pockets of woodland.
